Welcome and “Thank You” for your interest in the Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) Public Safety Management (PSM) Program.  The goal of our program is to provide The “Public Safety Professional” the opportunity to enhance their career through continued higher education. Our program is designed for the Public Safety minded students who already possess an Associate's degree or have at least 26 earned credits from a regionally accredited College or University, or has a documented background in public safety including Fire Safety Management (FSM), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Emergency Medical Administration (EMA), of which the Public Safety program offers distinct undergraduate specializations. Distributed in strategic regional locations to best serve key industry partners and our students, the program is administered by the SIU Carbondale College of Applied Sciences and Arts (https://asa.siu.edu/ ) and managed through the offices of Extended Campus/Off-Campus programs (https://extendedcampus.siu.edu/ ), classes are taught away from the main campus and thus offered at the following locations; Joliet Junior College (JJC) in Joliet IL, University Center College of Lake County (UCLC) in Grayslake IL, Chicago Public Safety Headquarters, Chicago IL, and Mt. San Antonio College (Mt.SAC) Walnut Ca..

Southern Illinois University Carbondale PSM faculty and staff are dedicated to providing educational career-oriented paths through its academic and technical resources to meet the needs of emerging public safety professionals and its future leaders to address key challenges in a dynamically changing world.  The mission of the Public Safety Management Program is to provide you with highly trained, experienced, and qualified instructors from various fields of study within the PSM program. We are committed to the enhancement and advancement of public safety professionals through higher education. The PSM program is an accredited IFSAC program and a long time participant in the Federal Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) program.  Extending the undergraduate degree capacities toward higher administrative qualifications, the SIUC PSM program also offers the Masters of Public Safety and Homeland Security Administration Master’s degree (https://architecture.siu.edu/graduate/master-of-public-safety/ ), wherein many public safety graduates also pursue career advancement credentials required of many leadership, as well as academic positions in the varied public safety industries. Together these degree plans provide multiple career paths for our students and future industry leaders.

Again, thank you for your interest in our program. Our administrative staff includes Dr. Craig Kyle Anz (canz@siu.edu) , who is currently serving as the Interim Director of Graduate Studies/Program Coordinator located on the SIUC main campus in Carbondale, Illinois, within the School of Architecture, College of Applied Sciences and Arts.  Lindsay Laycoax is the Site Coordinator representing both the Bachelor’s degree program and Master’s degree program at Joliet Junior College in Joliet, IL. Lindsay also serves as the Site coordinator for the University Center College of Lake County, Grayslake IL. Peter Renz is the Site Coordinator representing SIUC at the Chicago Public Safety Headquarter Chicago, IL. Mark Rivero is the Site Coordinator representing SIUC at the Mt.
