Program Goals

The primary goal of the Interior Design program is; “…to remain continually responsive to the demands and standards of qualification for the profession and its related fields...” (program mission statement).  In support of this overarching goal, the program goals align with the assessment categories historically set forth by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation [CIDA]:

  • Students will have a global perspective for design and weigh design decisions within the parameters of ecological, socio-economic and cultural context.

  • Students will be informed by knowledge of behavioral science and human factors.

  • Students will be able to apply all aspects of the design process to creative problem solving and will be able to identify and explore complex problems and generate creative solutions that support human behavior within interior environments.

  • Students will engage in multi-disciplinary collaborations and consensus building.

  • Students will communicate effectively.

  • Students will use ethical and accepted standards of practice, will be committed to professional development and the industry and understand the value of their contributions to the built environment.

  • Students will apply knowledge of interiors, architecture, art, and the decorative arts within a historical and cultural context.

  • Students will apply elements and principles of two and three-dimensional design.

  • Students will apply color principles and theories.
