Lauren Cook is a senior studying Fashion Design and Merchandising and will graduate in May 2014.
Lauren currently has an outstanding GPA of 3.9 and works as a research assistant for Dr. Seung-Hee Lee in the FDM department.
Lauren’s future career aspirations are to be a buyer for a clothing company and eventually start her own clothing business. Almost everyone in her family is self-employed, and she credits them with her strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.
Lauren is greatly influenced by fellow student and clothing designer Maury Cesair. She also watches many fashion documentaries that follow industry professionals as they do their work. Seeing the fashion experts do their jobs has helped her see what she might (or might not) like to do in the future.
While it is difficult to gain experience as a buyer in this area of the U.S., Lauren has gained valuable retail experience working at Victoria’s Secret and Hollister Company. She has also learned a lot working alongside Dr. Lee.
Lauren feels that the most valuable asset at SIU is the faculty. The instructors are experts in their fields and they have so much knowledge to share with students. She couldn’t imagine studying anywhere else.
In her spare time, Lauren enjoys creating DIY projects, such as bracelets and body scrubs, and she also enjoys singing for family and friends.
