SIU Summer Architecture Camps

Dr. Davey assisting Kid Architecture campers with a concrete pour.

The SIU Summer Architecture Camps program was developed twenty-six years ago to introduce young people to the design of the built environment. Camp participants will learn about architecture, urban design, landscape design, interior design and industrial design. The one-week camps are structured for three different learning levels: grades 4-6, middle school and high school. The camps have been conducted in various locations nationwide, including the Smithsonian and the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. The camps have received national and regional awards for the broad breath of hands-on activities and implementation of technology.

The Summer Architecture Camps have received the following awards: R. Buckminster Fuller Award for Service from the American Institute of Architects Illinois, Award of Merit from the American Architectural Foundation (twice), Citation of Honor from American Institute of Architects Illinois, Presidential Award from the Southern Illinois Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, Honorary Membership to the Association of Licensed Architects, Connection Citation from the Illinois Board of Education, Award of Distinction from the Urban Network, Chapter Educational Award from the Construction Specification Institute, and Region Educational Award from the Construction Specification Institute.
